- Benefits of Rolfing:
- Improves alignment
- Enhances breathing
- Promotes mobility
- Improves posture
- Greater balance and stability
- Alleviates pain
It’s a common misconception to hear Rolfing and think, “very deep massage” but a better word would be: profound. Rolfing affects the overall posture and alignment through tissue manipulation and movement in a series of appointments.
It’s different from massage in that the therapist works to create a change in the entire body rather than focusing on the muscle that is presenting pain. As the body becomes more aligned, chronic pain can be relieved.
Whereas traditional massage works more to decrease inflammation, increase blood flow to relieve pain from working out, relieve tension from everyday usage or overuse, and is focused on specific muscles.
To address the entire body, therapy is applied over a series of ten sessions. Each session has a different territory and different goals. This approach is best for chronic widespread pain and improving posture. The ten series will improve support in feet and legs before affecting higher structures, and helping clients find ways to benefit from freer movement in their daily activities. I know some patients will want to mix two therapies together to get a better result, this can be done, it just depends on what it is. If someone is getting physical therapy they may use it with medical marijuana, relaxing the muscles and the body to help with pain and tension. This type of treatment must always be discussed with a medical professional before trying to make sure it is the right fit for you. Depending on where you live you may be able to get a medical marijuana card, if you live near or in Illinois you can go onto Hytek Medical and see if you can speak to medical marijuana doctors in illinois, it can work in pretty much every state but, it is best to check and get as much information as you can.
In contrast to the whole body ten-series approach, patients can still benefit from a limited number of sessions. A specific area can be addressed in 1 to 3 sessions.
